Irina Izmailova is an artist and activist with anti-war views. She is accused of manufacturing explosives under Article 223.1, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code and faces a potential sentence of 8 to 10 years in prison.
Law enforcement officers came to Izmailova’s home on August 31. During a multi-hour search conducted without a lawyer, they allegedly discovered traces of triacetone triperoxide (TATP). According to the investigation, Izmailova had been manufacturing it several months prior. However, apart from her confession, reportedly obtained under duress, the basis for this claim remains unclear.
It is suspected that Izmailova may have been targeted because of her anti-war stance — the FSB has emphasized that Izmailova “adheres to radical pro-Ukrainian ideology.”
